CTV Outside Broadcast edits HD in the field with EVS
CTV Outside Broadcast, one of the largest independent mobile production companies in Europe, is now using EVS production technology to edit HD footage in the tapeless domain as digital files. The solution was supplied by sales/rental house GearBox (Sound and Vision), in the UK.
CTV OB now uses a file-based solution that facilitates field editing and archiving and is fully compatible with Apple Final Cut Pro software. GearBox supplied an EVS XT[2] server for ingest and playout, an EVS IPDirector suite for logging and associating metadata to clips and an EVS XF[2] unit for portable archiving and file transfer.
The XT[2] is used to record HD 1080/50i material on-site and log it into the IPDirector. Selected clips are then transferred to the Final Cut Pro G-Speed XL 6TB fiber array using the XT[2]'s GigE connection or the XF[2]. Because the XT[2] natively supports the Apple ProRes422 HD codec, all clips recorded on the XT[2] are immediately available to the Final Cut Pro stations for editing.
When editing is complete, the editor exports the sequence to QuickTime, and it is automatically transferred to a selected XT[2] server for playback, even before the copy is complete.
