You may remember a year ago the Jefferson County commissioners approved the Lake Cedar Group's proposal to construct a 730-foot tower on Lookout Mountain outside Denver for KCNC, KMGH, KUSA and KTVD to replace three large existing towers and a number of smaller ones. See RF Report for July 28, 2003 for details. The tower was opposed by Canyon Area Residents for the Environment (CARE), a group representing homeowners in the area. CARE appealed the ruling (see RF Report for September 29, 2003) and a court ruled the commissioners had to reconsider it. On August 17, they did and voted three to zero to approve the tower.
The CARE Web site mentions that the group has appealed the District Court decision upholding the commissioner's approval of the Bear Creek Development Company's new tower on Mount Morrison, the other major TV broadcast site for Denver, to the Colorado Court of Appeals. The Bear Creek proposal is for a unique "horizontal tower" that would limit the visual impact of the antennas to surrounding communities.
