DG FastChannel to buy Pathfire
DG FastChannel has acquired Pathfire for $30 million through a stock purchase.
Pathfire provides a digital media distribution pathway and network operations center (NOC) serving the television and entertainment industries.
Pathfire distributes third-party long-form content, primarily news and syndicated programming, through a proprietary server-based network via satellite and Internet channels. Pathfire technology is installed in about 1400 U.S. television stations. It recently announced a service to distribute HD commercial content.
The acquisition better positions DG FastChannel to participate in the digital distribution of Hollywood movies, which is expected to replace shipping of film copies from studios to movie theaters, according to Scott Ginsburg, chairman and CEO of DG FastChannel.
The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of this year.
