Digital Rapids Streaming Games
The 2008 Olympic Games will reach new highs in the amount online video on the Internet—2,200 hours of live streaming, NBC says.
Digital Rapids will enable that inprecendented effort, providing media encoding, transcoding and streaming systems to NBC. The company’s DRC-Stream tools will encode and stream live video into Web-viewable streams for the natowork’s Web site NBCOlympics.com.
Streams will be encoded in the VC-1 compression format, powered by Microsoft Silverlight technology. Digital Rapids Transcode Manager will be used to convert affiliate-provided content between compression and file formats for U.S. domestic distribution.
“Delivering an unparalleled online experience is a vital component of our unprecedented multiplatform coverage of the Beijing Olympics,” Rab Mukraj, Director of Digital Media Delivery at NBC Universal. “The Digital Rapids encoding systems will enable an outstanding viewing experience for our online audience through superior encoded video quality and robust reliability, while providing us the workflow efficiencies needed for coverage of this magnitude.”
