DIRECTV bolsters HD capabilities with new MPEG-2 compression equipment

DIRECTV has upgraded the compression equipment in its broadcast complex. The company has made several purchases in this area this year, the latest being multiple pieces of Thomson Grass Valley MPEG-2 compression equipment.

Continuity was a factor in the decision, because DIRECTV has been a client of Thomson for a few years now. It first turned to Grass Valley and the ViBE platform in 2003 to expand its local-into-local service.
