DIRECTV to add 25 more local HD markets by year’s end
DIRECTV has announced 25 new HD markets to be added by year’s end. The additions will bring the total number of local markets with HDTV to 67, representing nearly three-quarters of U.S. households.
To get the ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox channels, subscribers will need to purchase a new dish and receiver. There will be no extra cost for the programming, which is available to all with Total Choice programming, including local channels.
Customers were offered a rebate for purchasing DIRECTV’s H20 HD receiver or the new HR20 DIRECTV Plus HD DVR, which can record up to 50 hours of programming with MPEG-4 compression.
With the launch of two new satellites — DIRECTV 10 and DIRECTV 11 — in 2007, DIRECTV will be able to deliver more than 1500 local HD and digital channels, and 150 national HD channels, in addition to new programming services.
The 25 additional markets are Albuquerque, NM; Mobile, AL; Buffalo, NY; New Orleans; Des Moines, IA; Norfolk, VA; Flint, MI; Oklahoma City; Ft. Meyers, FL; Portland, ME; Grand Rapids, MI; Providence, RI; Green Bay, WI; Reno, NV; Greensboro, NC; Santa Barbara, CA; Greenville, SC; Spokane, WA; Harrisburg, PA; Springfield, MO; Jacksonville, FL; Toledo, OH; Little Rock, AR; Tulsa, OK; and Madison, WI.
