Dish Launches Multiscreen iTV Service
EchoStar's Dish Network has launched a full-time feature that allows customers simultaneously to watch six TV channels and use an interactive menu. The six-net "mosaic" was developed during the 2004 Summer Olympics and used again for the 2004 elections. The service, Dish Home, is available on Dish channel 100 and includes CNN, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, E! Entertainment, Bloomberg and Court TV. A full-screen automatically appears when a viewer selects a network window.
Dish has a total of 20 interactive channels, "serving over 10 million customers," according to the company. An ITV-enabled receiver is necessary to receive the service. Dish developed the six-net channel in conjunction with OpenTV Corp. middleware.
