Dish, MGM Sign VOD Deal for HD/SD Titles
DirecTV's chief DBS competitor, Dish Network, this week announced a deal of it own--this one with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to carry the motion picture studio's new releases and older titles. The agreement includes HD and SD content via two DBS venues--Dish's Video-on-Demand platform (Dish on Demand), and its Pay-Per-View service, Dish said.
The Dish VOD service is available on several proprietary set-top boxes, including its HD DVR (model ViP622), and various SD units such as the DVR 508, DVR 510, DVR 522, and DVR 625. Dish said each of its HD and SD enablers provides its subscribers with standard features such as pause live TV, fast-forward, 30-second skip, and rewind.
Channel 9467 is Dish's current HD PPV channel.
