DISH Network offers interactive Winter X Games coverage
ESPN and the DISH Network presented interactive coverage of the recent Winter X Games, a TV platform that allowed viewers to monitor six camera feeds in a mosaic format.
The ESPN interactive Winter X Games mosaic included six windows on one screen. The windows included ESPN and ABC's standard coverage, the best of Winter X Games highlights — featuring past Winter X gold medal runs — and four cameras that offered fans alternate camera angles and viewing perspectives to many of the events. DISH customers, who received the service through the last week of January, were able to watch all six windows at once or watch one in full screen.
The project created "an innovative, edgy viewing experience," said Matt Murphy, ESPN's senior VP of broadband and interactive sales.
The multiscreen viewing of the Winter X Games aired on DISH channel 100 — the gateway for DISH's 40-channel iTV offering. Subscribers can launch any iTV application by going to channel 100, choosing a category and selecting any of the available iTV applications.
The service, available to more than 12 million households, includes more than 40 different virtual and enhanced channels.
