Dish Signs Tribune Deal for WGN America HD
Tribune said it has successfully concluded negotiations with Dish Network that will allow the DBS firm to carry the HD version of WGN America, the network emanating from cable “superstation” WGN in Chicago.
Dish said it now boasts some 80 HD channels and will have at least 100 HD national channels by year’s end (and about the same number of local HD broadcast outlets). Included in WGN America’s lineup are its two hometown baseball franchises, the White Sox and the Cubs. WGN also provides play-by-play of the NBA Bulls.
WGN America (Dish Ch. 239) in HD will only be available on one of Dish’s premium HD tiers, which hover around an extra $30 monthly.
Dish also now has access to the HD feeds of Tribune’s other nearly two-dozen outlets in 19 markets, including: New York City (WPIX-TV); Chicago (WGN-TV); and Seattle (KCPQ-TV).
