Dish, Six TV Networks Team Up to Provide Election Coverage
Together, Dish Network and six TV networks will provide U.S. state and national election coverage on one channel.
CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, CSPAN, MTV and Comedy Central will help to provide Dish Network Election 2004 Coverage--an iTV application--that will use multiple picture-in-picture technology to show all coverage on a single screen.
From Oct-25 through Nov. 5, the Dish Network will provide the coverage free to customers with access to "dish home" iTV service.
OpenTV built the Election Coverage channel. Dish Network customers with Open-TV-enabled TV receiver models 3900, 4900, 301, 322, 811 and Dish Player DVR models 501, 508, 510, 721 to watch the channel.
Viewers--who subscribe AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless or Verizon Wireless--can use their cell phones to participate in on-screen polling. Voting in the election poll is not free, however, and will cost viewers 50 cents per vote and the charge will appear on the voter's billing statement. Viewers can view the poll results by selecting the Network Election Poll option.
