DisplaySearch revises upward flat-panel display revenue forecast
DisplaySearch has revised its forecast for flat-panel display (FPD) revenues in 2007–2008 upward by 6 percent in the second quarter of 2007 issue of the “Quarterly Worldwide FPD Forecast Report.”
The revised forecast predicts flat-panel display revenues rising to $92.7 billion in 2007 and to $102 billion in 2008 for a $194.6 billion two-year total, compared to the $183.3 billion predicted in the prior report.
Strengthening prices for TFT LCD is the main driver of the upgrade. The forecast for TFT LCD unit shipments in 2007–2008 declined less than 1 percent from the prior report, but the new report raised the average unit price 11 percent during the period.
On a display-area basis, the new forecast envisions 3 percent more TFT LCD output in 2007–2008 with a blended price per square meter of 8 percent above the prior report. TFT LCD suppliers have slowed the pace of capital investment in recent quarters, resulting in slower price declines and leading to more revenue than previously expected.
