Home Box Office (HBO) has hired DNF Controls, based in Sylmar, Calif., to create and deliver specialized hardware and software technology for its quality control monitoring and tape backup of SD and HD HBO/Cinemax programming pre-recorded onto Thomson Grass Valley Profile servers. The customized solution, based on DNF Controls’ 4040CL-L interface, will help the cable channel make the transition from a tape-based to a highly efficient server-based environment.
With two keystrokes the 4040CL-L automatically pre-stripes the tape with black and timecode, then allows the operator to begin the QC and archive record process.
DNF Controls’ customized 4040CL-L Clip Fast Access System controls the Grass Valley Profile playback and record channels using the VDCP control protocol, and controls the VTR using standard Sony control protocol. This gives the operator manual control over clip creation, recording, and end-of-recording. The 4040CL-L instructs the video router using GPOs to route the video server playback channel or video black to the VTR under control.
