SR-HD1500
JVC used the showcase of DV Expo last week (Sept. 23-24) in Pasadena, Calif., to demo its new Blu-ray Disc/HDD recorder units (models SR-HD1500 and SR-HD1250) — which JVC said are the first standalone Blu-ray recorders to be offered in North America.
The combo units, among other things, feature internal hard-disc drives for duplication and disc-authoring purposes, without being dependent on a separate PC. The recorders enable users to capture and/or author professional Blu-ray (BDMV or BDAV) discs. Both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoding provides support for HD/SD sources. (Also, a built-in converter will downconvert HD content to permit recording to a standard DVD.)
Both models support BD-R or erasable BD-RE (Blu-ray) discs.
The decks’ digital inputs include USB and IEEE-1394 ports (and an SDHC card slot) for compatibility with most current digital SD/HD camcorders. (Composite and S-Video inputs provide interfaces for legacy analog devices, too.) JVC said existing videos can be transferred from a camcorder and other devices to both units’ internal hard drives. A menu-driven interface allows assemblage of edited clips to be recorded to Blu-ray discs.
The combo decks will be shipped later in October.
