ENG plays critical role in New York, Chicago marathons
WBBM, the CBS-owned station in Chicago, broadcast live coverage of the 29th Annual LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon Oct. 22 with the help of the Total RF transmission services and microwave transmission technology from RF Central.
Providing live event coverage over a 26mi course can prove challenging, but the use of maximum ratio-combining technology with six antenna inputs per receiver proved itself by providing an unblemished broadcast throughout the route without the use of relay helicopters.
Two weeks later in New York City, Total RF and RF Central supplied 52 technicians and production specialists for coverage of the 2006 ING New York City Marathon.
Six on-course vehicles and two airborne stabilized camera systems transmitted live footage using RF Central’s Diversity Receivers and Camera-Mount Transmitters for broadcast on WNBC in New York City. NBC and ESPN also re-aired footage and highlights of the live event.
