Entravision selects Harris for digital transmitters

Entravision uses a Harris PowerCD high-power, UHF ATSC transmitters at the majority of its stations. .

Entravision Communications, a Spanish-language media company that owns and operates 48 television stations in the United States, has purchased Harris digital television transmitters for 17 of its stations.

Entravision selected the Harris PowerCD high-power, UHF ATSC transmitters for the majority of the stations, as well as DiamondCD UHF solid-state transmitters for stations requiring a total power output of less than 15kW.

The new Harris transmitters, to be delivered in 2006, will allow all 17 Entravision stations to transmit digital terrestrial programming at the maximum power allocated to each by the FCC.

Operational costs of the Harris PowerCD DTV transmitter are minimized and performance is maximized due to a combination of high-efficiency tubes as well as correction and filtering techniques. The PowerCD uses E2V’s ESCIOT tubes, which provide enhanced efficiency thanks to a multi-stage depressed collector design.

The PowerCD and DiamondCD transmitters include Harris APEX digital exciters with real-time adaptive correction capabilities for linear and nonlinear distortions. They will be integrated with existing Harris Ranger UHF ATSC digital transmitters.
