Envivio, a provider of MPEG-4 broadcast and streaming systems, has combined its MPEG-4 IP technology with IP video streamer Sigma Designs' HDTV decoder chip to create a set-top for the telco industry.
The product will provide telcos, utilities, MSO's and ISP's a system that supports DTV, DVD, VOD and PVR applications. The Sigma MPEG-4 HD decoder chip, which goes in the set-top box along with the Envivio 4-View player software, features HD decoding in MPEG-4 format and video output.
Envivio is touting MPEG-4 compression as a more efficient method of handling hi-bandwidth video (e.g. HDTV) for telcos.
