Ericsson to Drop Tandberg Television Moniker
SOUTHAMPTON, U.K.: Two-and-a-half years after being purchased by Ericsson, Tandberg Television is being renamed as simply Ericsson.
“From the 25th of January 2010, we will start using the Ericsson name for all our TV solutions and stop using Tandberg Television,” company president Staffan Pehrson said in an e-mail to customers this week. “The combination of Ericsson and Tandberg Television has always made sense. We provide the technology solutions, integration, and consultancy expertise across television, broadband and mobile to empower our customers to create completely new consumer experiences. Our focus is to help you differentiate your services, drive customer loyalty and deliver new revenues.”
Ericsson acquired Tandberg in early 2007 for around $1.6 billion, following an offer from Arris for around $1.2 billion. At the time, Tandberg controlled around 25 percent of the market for video-processing equipment used for Internet broadcasting, The New York Times said.
