Europe’s first HD channel chooses Panasonic's HDD5
The Panasonic AJ-HD1700 DVCPROHD VTR supports both progressive and interlaced standards and serves as a bridge between 720p and 1080 line based production and between HD and SD production.
Panasonic Broadcast VTRs and HD camcorders are at the heart of Europe’s first HDTV satellite channel, Euro1080, which began broadcasting this month.
The new channel is using nine Panasonic multi-standard HDD-5 VTRs (AJ-HD3700B) as its main recording and production machines in conjunction with HD servers. The AJ-HD3700B supports all HD studio standards for production, editing and broadcast in 1080p, 1080i and 720p. The company said its picture quality is particularly well suited to repeated dubbing and editing, and for large-screen cinema playback, an important option for Euro1080 with special event packages to large auditoriums.
Euro1080 is also using two Panasonic AJ-HDC27F Varicam cameras and eight AJ-HD1700 DVCPROHD VTRs.
The new channel broadcasts 24 hours a day from the Astra uplink centre in Betzdorf, Luxembourg via the Astra 1H satellite (19.2º East, Transponder 88) direct to home, and in the near future also via cable TV networks supporting cable HD set-tops.
Euro1080 is transmitting 1080i (1920 pixels x 1080 lines @ 50 hertz interlaced format) with the DVB MPEG-2 HD transmission standard. It is also targeting its pan-European HD capability at live (and pre-recorded) HD broadcasts for major sporting events and concerts.
