FCC Experimental Actions
While few of the experimental licenses the FCC granted between June 1 and July 1, 2005 affect frequencies used by broadcasters, the licenses show there is interest in development equipment for the new 3650-3700 MHz wireless band and Advanced Wireless spectrum. Two companies received licenses to test and development wireless broadband technologies in the 3650-3700 MHz band. Towerstream and Wiline Networks received licenses for fixed and mobile operation and fixed only operation, respectively, in San Francisco, Calif., Cisco Systems was authorized to use frequencies at 800 MHz, 1.7 GHz and 2 GHz for equipment testing. One license allows fixed and mobile operation in the Research Triangle Park, N.C. and another allows mobile operation in Milpitas, Calif.
The Titan Corporation and Omega Systems received licenses to operate in the 14000-14500 MHz band (also used for Ku-band satellite uplinks) for the test and development of military equipment. Titan's authorization covers the continental United States, while Omega Systems' specifies mobile operation at Ft. Gordon, Ga. HNS received a license to operate in the 19.7-20.2 GHz and 29.5-30.0 GHz band to test earth station prototypes for the Spaceway Ka-band geostationary orbit fixed satellite service system.
Alvarion was authorized to operate on 4.9 GHz to test equipment for public safety use, fixed and mobile, in "Bay area, Calif."
See the FCC Public Notice Report No. 380 - Experimental Actions for more information and a complete list of experimental licenses granted between June 1 and July 1, 2005.
