FCC extends comment deadlines for broadcast ownership diversification rulemaking
The FCC moved June 16 to extend the deadline for comments and reply comments on a Report and Order and Third Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking proposing new rules to increase the participation of women, minorities and small businesses in the broadcast industry, the Media Bureau said.
Comments in the proceeding are now due July 30 and reply comments are due at the commission August 29. The extension comes at the request the Diversity and Competition Supporters (DCS), which cited the broad number of proposals at issue. The group contended the extension was warranted so it could have adequate time to work with a variety of stakeholders to explain the proposals, react to their concerns and seek support.
In granting the extension, the commission noted its policy is not to grant deadline extensions in rulemaking proceedings. However, due to the importance of the issues, the commission granted the request for more time.
