FCC extends comment period on media ownership
The Federal Communications Commission has extended the comment and reply comment deadline for the Further Notice of Proposed Rule Making regarding possible changes to rules covering the media ownership.
The FCC’s Media Bureau on Sept. 18 issued the extension saying delaying the deadline for comments until Oct. 23 and reply comments until Dec. 21 serves the public interest and will help achieve the goal of developing a full record in the proceeding.
In motions filed Sept. 14, ION Media Networks and Free Press asked the commission to extend the deadlines for comments so that they would have time to complete research and analysis on the proposed rule changes. The Free Press also pointed out that a delay would allow parties to respond to issues that may be raised at the Oct. 3 commission hearing on media ownership in Los Angeles.
