FCC questions DirecTV deal
The FCC has questions for Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. and Hughes Electronics, the parent company of DirecTV. A lot of questions, in fact — more than 10 pages full of them.
The questionnaire represents an opening round in the FCC’s consideration of News Corp.’s bid to buy control of DirecTV. The questions deal with a multitude of issues, including competition in the TV programming markets, ad revenue, News Corp.’s ownership in other media entities—ranging from broadcast stations, program producers, interactive services and technology patents, plans for HDTV, how company directors are selected, and whether those directors are protected from removal.
