FCC to rule on backhaul compensation
By TVTechnology
published The FCC says it will determine by September 6 the amount of money broadcasters will get for giving up backhaul spectrum to satellite companies.
Broadcasters are entitled to compensation if they had to make new equipment purchases to accommodate satellite users moving to the spectrum. The issue, in limbo since the summer of 2000, centers on how much broadcasters will receive for that new equipment after being forced by the FCC to give up backhaul spectrum to mobile satellite services.
Broadcasters use the backhaul spectrum for news and sports feeds from remote locations to studios.
