FCC Web site number one among federal sites
The third annual survey of 1,265 state and federal Web sites conducted by Brown University ranked the FCC Web site first among federal “e-government” sites. The FCC scored a 92 out of a possible 100 points. The scale is based on information, service availability, quality of citizen access and material that would help citizens.
The FCC site was followed by the Department of Labor (88), Environmental Protection Agency (84), Department of Treasury (84), Department of State (84), Social Security Administration (80), and the FirstGov portal (80). The federal sites that had the lowest ratings were the various Circuit Courts of Appeal.
The report also noted that government Web sites have improved its security and privacy provisions over last year. The report found that there has been a proliferation of Internet services and Web sites that offer access only to registered users or in some cases only to users who pay fees. Top state Web sites this year include California, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
