FCC’s Martin wins consumer group’s ‘Porker Pick’

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) has named FCC chairman Kevin Martin “Porker of the Month” by for paying $355,000 for a NASCAR sponsorship to promote the DTV transition.

The group noted that the driver of the NASCAR car was David Gilliland, from Martin’s home state of North Carolina. The car and driver prominently feature slogans like “Is your TV ready for digital?”

CAGW suggested that Martin made the choice with an eye toward his political future. “Martin is generally expected to be replaced as FCC chairman by the next president, after which he may attempt to launch a political career in his home state of North Carolina,” CAGW wrote.
