The 58th Annual IEEE BTS Broadcast Symposium will be held October 15 to 17, at The Westin Hotel in Alexandria, VA, focusing on the theme “Managing the Transitions.”
The symposium, which is chaired this year by Guy Bouchard (with Ed Williams as Technical Program Chair), will include a series of application-oriented papers spotlighting IP for broadcasters, transport stream management and other subjects of interest to field engineers.
Other important topics include transitions in analog and digital radio and television broadcasting, technical aspects of the termination of analog television broadcasting in the United States next year, how IP becomes more involved in broadcasting, how handheld and mobile applications and standards will evolve for broadcasting, and a series of academic papers aimed at increasing familiarity with new technological developments not directly related to broadcasting as we know it.
Among the notable speakers this year: Richard Wiley, former FCC chairman (and former chairman of the FCC committee on advanced television) will give the keynote address to kick off the Joint AFCEE/IEEE BTS luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 16. In addition, Peter M. Fannon, vice president of Technology Policy for Panasonic U.S. (and former president of the Advanced Television Test Center), will share his perspective on the past and the future of digital media at the Awards Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 17.
The event also offers Continuing Educations Units (CEU) for those attending the technical sessions. CEUs are required by consultants and PEs to maintain professional engineer licenses. Participants can request CEU accreditation when registering for the conference.
