Fire Destroys Colorado Station Studios

A fire over the weekend destroyed the studios of two Colorado TV stations that shared the same facility in Grand Junction, according to wire reports. Five people escaped uninjured.

KREX, the CBS affiliate, and KFQX, the local Fox affiliate, were affected by the fire. KREX is owned by Hoak Media Corp. of Dallas, Texas, which runs KFQX under a local marketing agreement. The damages were estimated at around $6 million.

The Grand Junction Sentinel reported that the local PBS broadcaster offered space to KREX, which remained off the air Monday. Station General Manager Ron Tillery, said he was still considering a recovery plan, including setting up a temporary broadcast facility.

The Aspen Times reported that federal agents were investigating the cause of the fire.
