Several members of the House this week introduced a bill that would require the FCC to take action against a broadcaster for any single offending word or image.
Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss., along with co-sponsors Reps. Jim Matheston, D-Utah, Mike McIntyre, D-N.C., and Joseph Pitts, R-Pa., introduced the “Protecting Children From Indecent Programming” Act. If passed, a single offensive image or fleeting utterance on-air would be enough to garner a broadcaster a $325,000 fine for violating the FCC’s indecency rules.
Sen. John Rockefeller, D-W.V., introduced a similar bill with the same name to the Senate in July.
