FOR-A introduces new noise eraser
FOR-A will introduce the DNE-2, a real-time video noise eraser, at NAB2008 (booth #SU5220). The unit incorporates the company’s motion compensation technology, which is used to remove only the noise-filled signals, without harming the quality of the original video.
The DNE-2 Noise Eraser uses the same motion compensation technology found in the company’s FRC-7000 frame rate converter to provide accurate data replacement. In noise removal, information within a video is deleted and replaced with different information. In other noise reducers, the replaced information is less accurate, leading to blurred contours and details in the image. The DNE-2 also features process control, color correction, a detail enhancer and audio delay.
Hiro Tanoue, FOR-A’s deputy general manager for overseas operations, said the company named the DNE-2 a noise “eraser” because of this data replacement accuracy. The “2” in the DNE-2 model name represents the two filter functions that are used in the product — one to remove grain noise and one to remove dust noise.
The DNE-2 removes grain and dust noise from video that’s been converted from film to video. It supports HD-SDI input and output and all of the most common formats, including 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i, 1080/24p, 1080/24psf, 1080/23.98p, 1080/23.98psf, 720/59.94p and 720/50p.
With 1080i format material, progressive conversion inside the DNE-2 occurs with video converted via pulldown, enabling noise removal with an appropriate frame rate.
In addition to noise removal for telecine video, the DNE-2 can also be used for improving S/N level, removing noise caused during image compression and as a preprocessor for producing package media such as DVDs.
