Fox Networks Upgrade Sports Operations With Studer
The Fox Networks Engineering and Operations division in Los Angeles is in the process of revamping audio facilities at two venues used for sports broadcasts. A 96-input Studer Vista 8 digital live production console was installed at the Fox Network Center Stage A, in time for baseball's opening day on May 8. A second Vista 8 is scheduled for installation later this year at Fox's Network Center Stage B.
The console replacement project is part of a complete rebuilding of the Fox production facilities for digital audio and video operations.
According to Chris Bauer, Fox Networks engineering and operations vice president, an important consideration in console selection was the fact that freelance audio engineers would be using the equipment.
"A number of freelance mixers sat in on a few of the meetings where we discussed the Vista 8 and their comments were that they had personally used the desk and really liked it--particularly the Vistonics interface, which makes it easy to use," said Bauer.
The Center Stage A facility hosts all of Fox's pre- and post-game coverage, including the "MLB on Fox Pregame Show" hosted by Jeanne Zelasko. Center Stage B will be used for originating the talkshow "Best Damn Sports Show Period."
