France Leads Europe in HDTV Rollout
A Strategy Analytics Report "Digital TV Transition: Europe Watches France's Mandates As Terrestrial HDTV Arrives" released Wednesday outlines France's plan for rolling out digital terrestrial TV. It notes that DTT will be supported by a government requirement for DTV tuners in TV sets and a mandate to include HD tuners in HD-Ready TVs.
"Other countries in Europe and elsewhere may be wishing their own policy-makers were as clear and decisive, even though there are inevitable disagreements and a requirement for further policy fine-tuning. On balance, we believe that on this occasion direction from policy-makers appears to be well-timed and is likely overall to benefit industry progress rather than hinder it," the research abstract stated.
