Global Translation Expands Closed Captioning for Foreign Languages
Global Translation, Inc., an Ohio-based provider of real-time translation systems, is rolling out TranslateTV, a program that lets TV broadcasters, cable operators, advertisers and program distributors to offer programming in up to eight languages.
TranslateTV provides live language translation of TV closed-captions through CC2, CC3 and CC4. GTI supplies, installs and maintains a translation server at the broadcast site that decodes closed captions, translates the text stream and then re-encodes the results in unused caption fields.
WBNS in Columbus, Ohio was the first station to use TranslateTV by offering English-to Spanish translation to its audience. GTI is also working with an unnamed national news network in the top five to install the system.
Translate TV is available in eight languages: Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, German, Italian and Portuguese.
