The Turbo IDDR is a 3RU high system that can store from 10hr at 25Mb/s to 40hr at 4MB/s of video.

Grass Valley today announced the new Turbo iDDR, a three-channel disk recorder for professional A/V applications. Targeted specifically for event, corporate, institutional, worship and lower-cost applications, the three-channel Turbo iDDR provides digital storage, networking and clip-creation capabilities with an entry price of less than $10,000.

According to Grass Valley officials, the Turbo iDDR is part of an entire new series of products to be announced over the next several months. These new products will provide a complete acquisition-to-production workflow for these types of A/V applications.

The 3RU high system can store from 10hr at 25Mb/s to 40hr at 4MB/s of video. Machine control is handled via a front-panel GUI, RS-422 or Ethernet interfaces. The Turbo is also compatible with Crestron and AMX interfaces making interfacing with corporate facilities easy.

The server supports conventional removable media including CD-ROM, DVD and other portable media. Video also can be fed via Firewire 1394 and serial digital connections.

The Turbo iDDR supports both Mac and PC-based content, including QuickTime files, Windows Media Video including WMV HD, MPEG-2 and a variety of still formats. Video outputs include DVI, SDI, Composite, S-video, Y, Pb, Pr and HD. Video input connections include Composite, S-video, SDI and Y, Pb, Pr.

The versatile server is capable of handling both SD and HD images simultaneously and can even intermix the formats seamlessly on the same channel for playout. Because A/V users often have to intermix a variety of video sources, operators can set the desired output aspect ratio. The Turbo formats the images to fit.

Company officials emphasize this is but the first of several new-technology products to be released in the next few months. Stay tuned.
