Grass Valley’s Turbo iDDR provides one channel of record and two for playout, enabling it to capture and distribute content in multiple formats simultaneously.
Grass Valley has introduced an integrated digital disk recorder/video server and clip management device, the Turbo iDDR.
The recorder is part of the company’s ProLine series of next-generation products designed for the ProAV market as well as independent broadcasters. The new Turbo iDDR leverages the digital storage, networking, and clip-creation capabilities of the company’s Profile XP Media Platform line of video servers in a 3RU high box.
The new multichannel device stores from 10 (HDV) to 40 (DV) hours of 4:2:2 long-GOP material on two 74GB drives. With one channel of record and two for playout, the recorder performs the record/playback functions of up to three VTRs. It also offers a range of file management features, two channels of analog (stereo) audio and genlock for multi-camera productions. And it can be used to capture and distribute content in multiple formats simultaneously — including the record/playout of SD and HDV material on the same channel.
All features are accessed and controlled via a touch-screen interface or with a keyboard, monitor and mouse. It supports all of the most common storage protocols, via a built-in CD-ROM and DVD drive, as well as USB memory sticks and external devices. Standard file transfer connections include FireWire IEEE 1394, DVI and Gigabit Ethernet. It can also scale 4:3 still and video images to fit 16:9 screens.
