GV Switchers Used in U.S. Open Coverage
Grass Valley high-definition video production switchers were part of the landscape during coverage of the recent PGA U.S. Open Golf Championship held in at the Bethpage State Park Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.
NBC Sports carried the 109th playing of the annual week long event, and ESPN handled coverage of secondary events associated with the tournament. The Hudson, N.H. mobile production company, Game Creek Video, was tasked with supplying video trucks, which featured a fully loaded GV Kalypso and three Kayak HD switchers. In order to accommodate the hundreds of audio and video feeds at the tourney, Game Creek brought in four of its latest mobile production vehicles for the June 18-21 event.
The Kalypso provided 90 input channels and feature four M/Es. The Kayaks were equipped for three M/E operation. All of the switchers were equipped with internal digital effects processing, as well as internal still video and clip storage and playout capability.
