Harmonic to add 1080p 24fps support to DiviCom Electra 7000
Harmonic will add support for HD 1080p encoding at 24fps to its DiviCom Electra 7000 MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoder.
The company will also showcase real-time H.264 compression technology for 1080p at 60- or 50fps at IBC2007 in Amsterdam this week.
In the near future, digital video production for sports, documentaries, television and other programming is expected to be in 1080p format at 50fps in Europe and 60fps in North America and other regions. Cable, satellite and telco operators can use Harmonic's HD compression technology to offer premium HD subscription services for broadcast and on-demand applications.
Service providers using the Electra 7000 will be able to seamlessly migrate to 1080p24 compression via firmware upgrade.
