German broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) has installed a low-resolution automation browsing system and Global Media Transfer (GMT) media management software from Harris Broadcast at its transmission facility in Germany. The company also upgraded its existing Harris ADC 100 system to the Windows 2000 OS.
Harris' GMT system will provide significantly quicker transfer of larger files via fiber at RBB, and the Harris Media Browser will allow the production department to create promos in a low resolution format. With the addition of the Windows 2000 capabilities, RBB will be able to provide at least 10 channels of MPEG-1 proxies to the Harris automation system.
The ADC 100 system now fully automates the dubbing, management and playout of material for six channels including RBB-Brandenburg, EinsExtra, EinsMuXx, EinsFestival and two temporary channels. The upgraded system also controls eight automatic record channels that collect the program material.
RBB and its affiliates, Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB) and Sender Freies Berlin (SFB), have been using Harris automation products for the last seven years. A Harris single-channel automation system was installed at the ORB site in April 1996 to control the facility's Thomson Grass Valley Profile servers and master control switchers, Oxtel keyers, Pro-Bel routers and Chyron character generators. The system was later expanded to include the control and playout of all six-channel systems at the Brandenburg facility.
