Harris Revenue Increases
Harris has reported that its third quarter income increased 57 percent on revenue growth of 18 percent. Revenue in Harris' Broadcast Communications segment increased to $103.2 million from $73.3 million in the same quarter last year. Broadcast segment operating income grew from $0.5 million during the period time last year to $6.9 million in the third quarter. The company's acquisition of Encoda Systems contributed significantly to segment orders, according to Harris.
U.S. sales of HD radio transmission equipment boosted revenue and U.S. orders for DTV transmission equipment increased. Harris noted, however, that revenue was dampened by soft international market conditions for both analog and European-standard digital broadcast equipment.
