Harris Supplies for Mobile DTV Showcase
Harris recently announced at the CES show, the distribution of their MPH technology to local Washington-area stations, providing ATSC Mobile DTV broadcast support to the region.
The Harris MPH platform has been adopted by five local stations including WUSA-DT (CBS), WDCA-DT (FOX), WPXW-DT (ION), WHUT-DT (PBS) and WNVC-DT. WFDC-TV (Univision) will reportedly go live with MPH sometime following the CES show.
The project is in running with the Mobile DTV Consumer Showcase, sponsored by the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC), which begins this month.
The MPH system works with almost any DTV transmitter, and includes everything a broadcaster needs to operate one or more ATSC Mobile DTV program streams. The complete package includes a Harris NetVX video networking platform, Synchrony mobile networking adapter, Apex M2X exciter and signal generation and electronic service guide components from the Roundbox Corporation.
According to Harris vice president of broadcast technology Jay Adrick, launching ATSC Mobile DTV requires only a modest investment of time and capital and can help stations realize new revenue opportunities.
