Harrisburg, PA, BAS licensees make the switch
Broadcast Auxiliary Service (BAS) licensees in the Harrisburg, PA, market have completed their facilities transition from the 1990MHz-2025MHz spectrum band — the first in the top 50 markets to do so, Sprint Nextel said Tuesday.
During the past two years, Sprint Nextel and the Harrisburg broadcasters have worked with equipment vendors, integrators and contractors to design, build and install new electronic newsgathering (ENG) equipment, including transmitters, receivers, controllers and antennas needed to complete the conversion.
Once the equipment was in place and operating properly, Sprint Nextel coordinated with local stations to identify a suitable date to switch operations to their new spectrum.
In addition to Harrisburg, PA, Harrisonburg and Charlottesville, VA, also completed the BAS transition this week.
To date, seven markets have completed the relocation, and Sprint Nextel expects that Las Vegas will be completed by the end of the year.
