HBO Installs EEG HD Captioning System
HBO has selected EEG’s closed captioning equipment for upgrading the network’s multiplex movie service channels to high-definition. The company plans to distribute all 26 Cinemax and HBO feeds in HD MPEG-4 by 2008. EEG’s HD480 Smart Encoder V HD/SD Closed Caption Servers will be used in the project.
“EEG is a closed captioning technology resource for HBO that has consistently met and exceeded our specifications,” said Elmer Musser, senior vice president of engineering at HBO. “HBO’s standards are set extremely high for closed captioning. We require optimum reliability and accuracy, backed up by bulletproof support.”
The EEG HD480 technology provides both encoding and upconversion, as well as real-time relocation of captions and secure IP delivery of captioning data and program audio to off-site captioneers.
The EEG equipment is installed at HBO’s New York City production and post production facilities and the company’s Hauppauge, N.Y. network origination and transmission facility.
