HD Ad Promotes Blu-ray Format
While a growing number of TV spots often mention one of the two competing next-gen DVD formats while promoting the release of motion picture titles, Blu-ray Disc proponents are currently marketing an ad that targets their preferred format itself.
Under the auspices of the Blu-ray Disc Association, a TV spot now airing mostly on HD channels is one of very few produced to specifically market the format, not any specific content.
The spot began airing a few weeks ago on a handful of channels targeting HD viewers (Discovery HD, INHD, HDNet and HDNet Movies), and a compressed version is featured on High-Def Digest.
In the 30-second spot, images from current and future Blu-ray releases are featured from titles such as "Superman Returns," "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and the sequel to "Pirates of the Caribbean." Actual release dates for these titles have not yet been announced, although the latest entry in the Superman franchise has already been released on Blu-ray Disc.
