HD E-N-G tour hits the road

E-N-G Mobile Systems is touring the country to demonstrate HD newsgathering with BMS transmission and JVC encoding gear.

E-N-G Mobile Systems is touring the country with a new electronic newsgathering (ENG) system for HD backhaul inside a custom Live-TV news van. The remote HD transmission system uses JVC's DM-JV600U and DM-D4600U MPEG-2 encoder and decoder.

The company will demonstrate its news van at upcoming regional Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) shows as well as several smaller venues across the country.

The news van will demonstrate the JVC gear working with BMS’ TruckCoder II (TCII) COFDM transmitter and integrated receiver decoder (IRD). Also onboard is equipment from Apple Computer and Marshall. With the DM-JV600U, broadcasters now have the ability to mix the HD signal coming off the microwave radio receiver in the station with their live HD signal.

The DM-JV600U is a multi-format 4:2:0/4:2:2 HDTV encoder featuring Dolby audio pass-through that offers compatibility with multiple microwave radio systems - both analog and digital. Incorporating advanced MPEG-2 encoding technologies exclusive to JVC, the encoder takes SMPTE-292M HD-SDI signals and encodes them into a compressed HD MPEG-2 transport stream. The stream is provided through its two DVB-ASI interfaces.

The HD-ENG Live-TV news van will appear at SBE shows in Seattle, Phoenix and Dallas and make stops in the San Francisco Bay area; Los Angeles; San Diego; Portland, OR; Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, NM; and Denver.
