HD Grammy Viewers Hear Dolby 5.1
Not only will HD viewers of the 45th Annual Grammy Awards be able to see a sharp picture of their favorite stars, they will now be able to hear them more clearly. The Grammy's will be broadcast to HDTV viewers in Dolby Digital 5.1 on Feb. 23.
Dolby is working with Recording Academy technical personnel of the transmission from Madison Square Garden in New York. During the Grammy telecast, 5.1 surround mixes will be balanced in a dedicated 5.1 control room and then delivered over fiber-optic cable for broadcast. Dolby E decoders and Dolby Digital encoders will convert the feed in location production facilities, at the broadcast operation centers and at local DTV stations around the U.S.
