HD ‘Looney Tunes’ Coming to Xbox
Xbox Live, the online distribution service run by Microsoft, began offering digital HD versions of several dozen “Looney Tunes” cartoons this week, expressly for video gamers with the company’s Xbox 360 consoles.
Up to 50 episodes starring Bug Bunny, Daffy Duck and their assorted friends and foes can be downloaded in HD. About 20 percent of the titles, so far, also are dubbed in Spanish, according to Variety.
Microsoft is stepping up its online content sales efforts, especially targeting family-oriented fare. Xbox 360 users typically skew towards young males, so Microsoft is trying to broaden their game console’s appeal by adding TV content from Nickelodeon and other family-friendly venues.
Xbox Live said it now ranks right behind iTunes as the busiest online video content store, and is the only broadband outlet to offer HD content on a regular basis.
