HDMI Version 1.2 Introduced for HD Connectivity
HDMI Licensing, LLC, the agent responsible for licensing the High Definition Multimedia Interface specification, has announced the latest revision of HDMI--version 1.2. The company said more than 250 vendors worldwide have now adopted HDMI via the rollout of nearly 500 HDMI-enabled products.
HDMI, a relatively new type of cable connection that’s used to transmit digital signals from a cable STB or satellite receiver to an HD display, transmits uncompressed digital audio and video in one cable (thus among other things, reducing cable clutter). One HDMI connection replaces three connections for HD video.
HDMI version 1.2 has several changes targeted to better support the computer industry, including a minor modification to the electrical specification to help ensure compatibility of current and future HDMI receivers with a low voltage, AC-coupler. Products implementing the HDMI 1.2 specification will be
backwards-compatible with earlier HDMI products. (Version 1.2’s specification can be downloaded at no cost at: www.hdmi.org).
