HDNet Covers Baghdad During Election
HDTV cable network HDNet aired a continuous, live HD feed showing the streets of Baghdad during its election period. The feed was aired from 10 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Baghdad time (2:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Eastern U.S. time) on each day, the day of the Iraqi national assembly election and the day preceding it. The feed was sent from a transportable uplink and HD camera situated on a Baghdad rooftop. In addition to the live, uninterrupted coverage, taped reports were offered.
HDNet has been a leader in HD location news coverage, and this marks the first time an election has been covered in HD. Here in the United states, the presidential inauguration was covered in HD, and according to the listings in the "New York Times," the State of the Union address will be aired in HD for the second time. These events are more evidence that all television will be produced in HD in due time. Some people might question why anyone would want to see a State of the Union address in HD. But then, your writer could not figure out why anyone would care that a baseball game was aired in color--until he saw it for the first time.
