HDTV sales in the U.S. to grow 71 percent by 2009, says study
The overall market value of HDTV sales in the United States will grow to $65 billion by 2009, a 71 percent increase over current sales, according to a new report from Parks Associates.
The study, “High-Definition TVs and Services,” finds that nearly 47 percent of U.S. TV households plan to buy an HDTV in the next 12 months. As a result HDTV sales will grow by 30 percent and HD video services will increase by 38 percent by the end of next year.
Currently, overall market penetration for HDTVs and HD services is low with barely 10 percent of all digital video subscribers signing up for HD programming and only 44 percent of HDTV households subscribing to HD video services, the report said.
However, broadcasters, cable, and DBS operators are beginning to feel a push to expand their HD video services to attract more HD viewers, according to the study.
