Independent station group Hearst-Argyle Television has developed an "intercom style" wide area network communications infrastructure with the installation of voice-over-IP (VoIP) equipment from U.K.-based Trilogy Broadcast Ltd. The system will help Hearst’s stations communicate better, even miles away.
Hearst-Argyle will extend their current intercom reach to configure local, regional and national users, together with mixed groups - regardless of their physical location, using the Mercury intercom system.
The Mercury intercom system enables news personnel to instantly coordinate events between any and all of their sites across the country. The installation will also provide connection between Hearst-Argyle’s existing production intercom systems at all their station sites. This allows Hearst-Argyle to extend their current intercom reach to configure local, regional and national users, together with mixed groups - regardless of their physical location, Trilogy said.
Later this year, the Hearst-Argyle system will be expanded to allow all of the stations to connect their local production IFBs into the Mercury system. Utilizing the Mercury telephone interfaces, this will allow any field reporters to call into the system from mobile phones or land lines - allowing them automatic selection of 25 IFBs without operator assistance.
Trilogy Broadcast manufactures intercom, signal monitoring and SPG systems, including its Mercury VoIP communications equipment that is being used by Hearst-Argyle. Trilogy's USA-based company, Trilogy BSE concluded the deal.
